Olive trees will stand down to minus – 12 deg c when established (3 feet plus). On the nursery my olive trees stay out all winter without being covered up.
Olive trees are incredibly easy to look after, requiring very little water. They are best positioned in a full sun position if you would like them to produce fruit.
Tomato feed is a good way of increasing the likelihood of your olive tree bearing fruit.
In summary olive trees thrive on neglect making them an easy choice in either the modern or traditional garden.
Can easily be grown in a pot, as they seldom need re-potting.
Planting Instructions:
- Dig a hole that is twice as wide as the root ball and slightly shallower.
- Gently remove the tree from its container, taking care not to disturb the roots too much.
- Place the tree in the center of the hole and backfill with soil, tamping it down gently as you go to remove air pockets.
- Water the tree thoroughly after planting to settle the soil and encourage root establishment.
- During the first year, water the tree regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Once established, olive trees are drought-tolerant.
